Welcome to our Charities pages.

Songbirds has raised funds for a number of local charities over the years - some of the charities supported between the beginning of the choir in 2009 and 2017 include:

  • Dementia Harborough

  • Street Pastors

  • LOROS

  • Arthritis Research

  • Motor Neurone Disease

  • Kettering Paediatric Unit

  • Adam'S'mile

Since Winter 2024 Songbirds chosen charity has been Dementia Harborough

Dementia Harborough offers support, advice and friendship to those affected by dementia in Market Harborough and the surrounding areas.

Songbirds Choir is very happy to be able to support this local charity which offers a dementia cafe every month (on the third Tuesday), in the Jubilee Hall at the Congregational Church on Bowden Lane in Market Harborough.

The cafe is open to people with dementia together with their carers and are free to attend.

There is also a 'Singing for Memories' session on the first Tuesday of every month and, throughout the year there are coach trips to events and attractions - offering a day out and a change of scenery.

From the beginning of 2023 until mid 2024 Songbirds supported:

Spirit At Play....

Spirit At Play supports children and adults to improve both physical and emotional wellbeing.  It offers calm interaction with horses for people with learning disabilities, low level mental ill health issues and physical disabilities.

The organisation offers Equine Assisted Learning to develop life skills through positive interaction with the healing nature of horses.

The horses themselves have chronic injuries and ailments which mean they cannot be ridden so the interaction occurs at ground level.

....and The Hygiene Bank

The Hygiene Bank is a grassroots, people-empowered charity and social movement, grounded in the community.  Basic hygiene should not be a privilege and Songbirds members contribute essential items each month towards the local Hygiene Bank vision that one day everyone living in Market Harborough and district will have access to essential hygiene products.  A vision that is echoed across the UK.

 2020 - 2022 Songbirds supported Spectrum

The Spectrum Group,  Market Harborough, is a support group for parents and carers of children, young people and adults who are on the autistic spectrum.

It is a welcoming, non-judgemental and informal support group which welcomes parents from around Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland.  The group meets twice a month to provide support and guidance as well as running family activities throughout the year, and raising awareness locally.  Plans are also being developed to run training sessions for parents and carers.

2018 -2020 Songbirds supported a group for Young Carers.
