November Ghost Walk around Market Harborough

A good number of choir members dared to have a spooky experience with our Ghost Walk around Market Harborough led by James Carpenter on the 13th of November. It was very interesting interesting indeed!  There are some places around the town that seemed well and truly haunted!!!!!!

Of course......there are no pictures........just a blank space.......................

Spring and Summer - Come on Let's walk.........

A number of times throughout the year, members of the choir joined together for a gentle walk- usually about 3-4 miles with a nice midway break for coffee and cake!

The first walk was in March -

Songbirds - Christmas Activities 2023

On Friday December 15th a group of around 20 Songbirds sang for the residents of Tebbutt Lodge.  This is the second year we have performed there and each time we have been enthusiastically welcomed and our efforts have been rewarded with delicious cakes and hot drinks.  This was our last activity before a well-earned Christmas break.

Songbirds Christmas meal took place at The Waterfront on the evening of December 14th

Thirty of us filled the top floor and had a really enjoyable time with good food and excellent company.  A really great evening out - fun and relaxation after lots of hard work!!

On the lead up to our Christmas concert, Songbirds were involved in a number of social and fund-raising activities including a Raffle, a Quiz and a performance at Tebbutt Lodge for the residents who gave us some delicious cakes as a reward!!!

During November and early December, members contributed items for a Raffle  These contributions were used to create five Christmas hampers of various sizes and a sixth raffle prize was a beautiful cushion crafted by one of our members.

The raffle is for choir members only and the winning numbers are drawn at our Christmas meal.   The generosity of choir members means that we all enjoy taking part and, the lucky winners get some really excellent prizes!!

In mid-November some Songbirds in a session  took part in a craft session organised by The Paint Pottle.  They produced some lovely painted pottery items.

Songbirds Visit to Farmer Barnes' Dairy September 2023

Around eleven Songbirds landed in Somerby at Farmer Barnes Dairy in September this year for a really interesting and very informative afternoon in the wettest possible weather!

The farm is a modern dairy farm with a herd of 300 hundred cows - most of which have to be milked twice a day every day - a process which takes just under three hours in the morning and a little less in the late afternoon.  All the other work takes place on top of that which made us realise that farming consists of very long days!

Tour Itinerary

Introduction and Welcome

Tractor and Trailer ride across the farm

Watch the cows being milked in the Milking Parlour from the upstairs Viewing Gallery

Feed the baby calves their milk

Tea and Cakes served in the Cow Classroom

Question and Answer Session

Opportunity to buy cheeses made with milk from the farm

Our tour lasted more than two hours and ended with chocolate cake, scones and cream with as much tea or coffee as we could want!  We all had a really good time!

Songbirds Summer Walk July 2023

On a surprisingly sunny and warm day in early July, a group of Songbirds celebrated their summer break (after a very successful concert), with a circular afternoon walk followed by coffee and cake.

The group made their way along Adam'S'mile off-road footpath which runs between Market Harborough and Lubenham and then cut across the fields to end up at the Farndon Fields Farm Shop Cafe for some well earned refreshments.
