Our Music

At Songbirds we sing songs from a wide range of sources which include classical, folk and popular music both modern and more traditional.  We aim to have fun while we practise and perform.  We welcome all-comers.

"Singing - we have so much fun  and it's good for our health as well!" (Choir member)

Choir members are encouraged to offer suggestions and put forward their ideas of what songs to sing although the final decision on performance set lists remains with our Musical Director Faye Deane, accompanist Jane Holyland and Songbirds Committee subgroup.

The Choir is made up of three sections as we usually sing in three part harmonies - these sections are first soprano second soprano and alto. and in up to five different harmonies at times  However, we are flexible in our approach and sometimes sing in unison and in up to five part harmonies.

Members of Songbirds do not have to be able to sight read their music and there are no auditions to deal with!  Our continually improving sound comes from the hard work and dedication of our Choir working closely with, and very ably supported by, Faye and Jane.

Rehearsals

Songbirds rehearse with their music leadership team each Thursday evening from 7.30pm until 9pm at the Methodist Church on Northampton Road in Market Harborough.  We also take time to practise in our own sections at other times too, particularly when we are approaching concert time.  This allows us to become really familiar with our part in a song and enables Faye and Jane to focus on the extra bits - the ones that help to make a concert special - the light and shade in a particular song for example.
