Musical Leadership Team and Committee Members

Musical Director

Faye Deane BMus (Hons) PGDip TCM PGCE TLLLS

Faye studied the clarinet and performance at Trinity College of Music in London.  She also studied conducting under Peter Stark and Gregory Rose.

Faye has performed all over the UK and worldwide with various groups and ensembles both singing and playing.  Her recordings are on a variety of albums.

Now back in Leicestershire, where she studied for her teaching qualification, Faye runs her own baby and toddler  music classes which she hopes will encourage more music into schools.

Faye has her own individual style and a tireless enthusiasm to get things out of us we didn't even know we had!!  She inspires confidence and energy.  Her warm up and rehearsal techniques have certainly released our 'inner diva' and enabled us to be the best we can!

Accompanist

Jane Holyland Pianist 'Extraordinaire'

Jane grew up in a musical household.  She learned to play the piano and viola during her school years and, on her return from university, she became the accompanist for the Market Harborough Gang Show productions and, in addition, began to play for two local dance academies.  In 2011 she became the pianist for the local U3A choir and then, in 2013, joined Songbirds.

Jane works tirelessly to support our choir - she makes audio recordings so that we can practise at home, searches for music she believes the choir will enjoy and, at the same time, learn from.  She says she feels very lucky to be useful to the choir and at the same time enjoy her 'hobby'!  However - members would probably not describe her as merely 'useful' - indispensable would be a more accurate and fitting description!!

Jane is a versatile pianist who accompanies Songbirds with great sensitivity and understanding - helping us immensely when we practise.  She has a wicked laugh and a real twinkle in her eye!

Songbirds Committee

Songbirds Committee is made up of members from the choir who are elected at the annual AGM - usually held in September each year.   Committee members take on a range of responsibilities to support the activities and development of the choir and all members make active contributions to the social and fundraising elements of the choir

Currently our committee is structured as follows:

  • Ali:  Secretary and Registration. Her role is one of welcoming members and registering their attendance each rehearsal - she is probably the first person you meet as you walk through the door!

  • Charlotta:  Treasurer and New Members support

  • Eileen:  Publicity and Design

  • Kay: Social Secretary and Liaison with

  • Liz: Charity Liaison and

  • Mandy: Chair and website

  • Martine: Music management - purchase, distribution and collection.

Although each committee member has particular responsibilities, we work co-operatively and flexibly to help each other and support the choir.
